Over the years the information took different forms, generally through printed journals and sometimes more extensive publications. Open door
The religious phenomenon continues to stimulate fierce debates. The shallowness of many of these debates should be deplored and the book “De Buitenkant van de Religie: een Menswetenschappelijke Rondleiding” aims to upgrade their quality, well aware of the risks of this ambition. For some the book will be too friendly to religion, for others too unfriendly. Yet such an intervention in several current debates is what this book has in mind. Continue reading
Dialogue
Seen from outside, a dialogue might often seem as something like a quarrel. One might even think that it doesn’t serve peace if somebody claims truth for his or her thinking. St. Luke describes the scribe who asked Jesus for the main commandment as somebody standing up only to test him (Luke 10,25−37).
St. Mark describes the same scene as it were from within (Mk 12,28−34), and he makes of it the model of a dialogue. The scribe wishes to know what Jesus thinks and holds for true. “Which, in your opinion, is the main commandment?” The answer of Jesus is the connection of loving God and loving the neighbour. Comprendre et agir
Prenant acte du fait que la diversité culturelle de l’Europe ne cesse de croître, le Parlement européen et le Conseil ont décidé de promulguer l’année 2008 “Année européenne du dialogue interculturel“. Celle-ci poursuit des objectifs divers: favoriser la rencontre des cultures pour prévenir des discriminations préjudiciables au développement économique et social de l’UE, soutenir le dialogue interculturel partout où il pourrait contribuer à la construction d’un mieux “vivre ensemble” en Europe, renforcer une identité et une citoyenneté européennes, étayer la politique étrangère de l’UE etc. Continue reading
From Slovenia to Brussels
Dear Brussels,
I would like to address this letter with the title:
I feel Slovenia
and with a rather strange subtitle: from B to B.
I feel Slovenia is the slogan of the Slovenian Tourist Board with which Slovenia wants to make its place in the “European house” more recognisable. Hopefully, it will succeed in this task well.
First of all, I would like to tell you that I feel embarrassed in writing a letter to you. I never thought I would be asked to write a letter to a city. A stimulating challenge, but to be honest, it sounds as impersonal, as many EU institutions are to most Slovenian citizens. I will try my best, since it is not an easy task. There are too many thoughts, doubts, experiences on my mind. Continue reading
