Dear Brussels,
I would like to write to you about the huge challenges the transformation of governance culture in the transition countries represents for us here in Hungary.
The Hungarian socialist-liberal government wanted to introduce competition in the social-health insurance system from 1st January 2009 on, despite massive and widespread protest from professional bodies, health policy experts and civil organizations. After roughly one and a half years of preparation and discussion the Hungarian Parliament accepted the law in December 2007. The State President used the presidential veto to return the bill to the Parliament for reconsideration because of the lack of both impact analysis and social support. Continue reading →
