If only the interest in our common future as Europeans would be as great as it is in our past… This was one of the first thoughts that came to my mind when the freshly opened “Europeana” website annouced its breakdown due to over 10 million hits an hour on 20 November, the day of its launch.
What is the “Europeana” about? In April 2005 six Eu members states appealed to the EU institutions to create an European electronic library in order to connect national projects at a new level. Continue reading →

The financial crisis has recently dominated the media’s political coverage, and has relegated the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament (EP) to a much lower priority. The elections will take place between the 4th and 7th of June. Every member state may determine the precise date of the election and its specific processes: but in every case the right to vote is assured to all citizens over 18 years of age, without discrimination on grounds of gender and the principle of proportional representation applies. This workshop was convened by a group of Jesuit-related organisations: Alboan, the Centre for of Liberation Theologies of the Catholic University of Leuven, Entreculturas, OCIPE, the Jesuit Social Justice Secretariat in Rome, and the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). This group had first come together at the ‘Ignatian Family Encounter’ which preceded the World Social Forum in Nairobi, January 2007, where the ideas elaborated in the workshop first began to take shape. As early as 1958, Ernst B. Haas published his book, The Uniting of Europe, in which he analysed this new form of supranational cooperation. Ces premières mesures de désarmement douanier et d’élimination des restrictions quantitatives, c’est-à-dire limitation des importations par les contingents, représentent le premier pas vers la réalisation progressive du Marché Commun européen qui sera intégralement établi le 1er janvier 1970 (ou au plus tard le 1er janvier 1973).
